The Other Place

As expressed in my earlier blog there's one more place I love then India and that is Perhentian Islands that is located in Malaysia..! My first exposure to this island was 10 months back when my friends decided to celebrate eid on the island and I was asked to hop along.. I had never been to an island and I wasn't really looking forward because i am not really a water person.. But nevertheless I tagged along.

The journey to Perhentian Island was long & tiring..Firstly, as we were prepared to leave two of friends didn't show up they fell asleep( they were the organisers) so we kept on calling & calling to wake them up and finally they woke up and the chase to the bus station began.. We had only 20 mins to get to the station or else we would miss our bus and that would be the end of our holiday.. Luckily we made it on time.. But one of my friends couldn't make it as she was coming from another place and lost her way and so we had to leave without her..

Now started the 8 hour bus journey to the island..
It was a long one and tiring and scary. Tiring because of sitting in one place so long , scary because the driver was a pretty rough one.. And finally when the long journey came to end we were relieved temporary..we still had to wait for the jetty services that operate from 7am and we arrived at 5am so the two hour wait got us more exhausted.. And I was cursing myself as to why did I come.
Finally 7am came and time to leave.. The boat was a 45 mins ride to the island, and this is where my excitement started as the boat ride was one hell of a ride. The bumps and seeing the crystal clear water just blew me away and this is where I started enjoying and when the island appeared i had no words for it.. And just as I thought that we had reached the island finally I was surprised by being told that we need to get down and take a water taxi.. And I was like what ? Water taxi , I have never heard of that word.. Water taxi was a small boat that was meant to transfer us from our big boat and to the island as the huge boat couldn't come all the way to the shore.. And so I was so close to the island but yet so far..

The water taxi ride lasted barely half a minute and there we were on the island..:) I was mesmerised by what was placed infront of me.. The place looked like heaven.. So peaceful and calm, something that I had never seen before.. And I haven't seen heaven either..;)
Oh and I didn't expose this little secret to you guys .. We went as backpackers which means we didn't have a booking on us.. And so we searched for hotels and settled down on a chalet called the moonlight chalet. Now time for feeding the stomach.. We all were so hungry and the breakfast was so tempting we literally locked our plates and now decided on an itinerary on what we plan to do next.. First on the agenda was swimming.. So everybody went for a swim.. I'm not a water person so I resorted to sunbathing and reading my novel..my novels have always been my best companion everywhere.. The first day was quite chilled out and relaxed.. The night scene was a very lively one where we chilled at a place called black tip.. It was a fusion of culture east meets west.. You meet all kinds of people and interact with them... Te second day was dedicated to snorkelling.. This was the first time I was ever attempting something like this and a honest confession I don't know how to swim and so I was very hesitant to go in the first place. Though I don't know swimming I was very very keen on trying it out.. So I braved myself and went snorkelling with my group.. I must say I am so glad I decided to go.. I was scared in the beginning but luckily a friend of mine helped me snorkel with him.. He held my hand throughout our snorkelling trip and made sure that I saw everything and that it was a worth venture.. The way I saw the sea creatures like I have never seen before.. Its amazing to see how life underwater is, I thought that I was watching discovery tv with all the things I was seeing.. From swarm of fishes to corals and sea turtles everything was just so magnificent.. I took so many memories from that trip and I was so glad I came for it..while my friends continued the remaining of their days by making the most use of the crystal clear water and sun.. I made sure I made the most of it by chilling on the sun loungers and reading my amazing novels. And after spending 4 nights the trip finally came to an end And now I didn't wanna leave this place.. First I wasn't willing to corn and now I wasn't willing to leave.. But before I left I promised myself to come here again before I left Malaysia for good.. And here I am again.. Though this time I came only for 2 nights nevertheless the island brought back memories and fun .. And now it's already time to leave.. And I am sad again..while I don't have a choice of staying back I can't even promise to come back as after 5 days the Journey of Malaysia is going to be over for me..

Malaysia has given me many splendid moments that I will always cherish and perhentian is definitely one of them.
